22 July 2017 – Codebase, Edinburgh
Wordcamp Edinburgh was a 2 day event with tech and business talks given by a variety of local and not-so local gurus. The event was a great success and there were some great themes developed.
What is Wordcamp?
From their website:
WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other.
Each month in Edinburgh and in several locations there are talks and meetups which really help if you are new to WordPress or a seasoned professional.
What is WordPress?
WordPress is a well known CMS (Content Management System) that is available for free and is really easy to set up and get running. To get a great site that is scalable, however, does require some effort and is one of the services that we provide.
What was the talk?
At the wordcamp, my talk on Agile for the self-employed was selected as one of the talks to be given. Agile is a great way of working and is helpful not just for technology based businesses. In fact, the idea came from the car manufacturing industry. In essence it allows a company to adapt to change better. One of the services that we can offer as a business is to help companies to implement Agile methodologies in a way that is good for the company.
However, usually Agile is reserved to teams upward of 3 people up to roughly 10. So the talk that I gave was about the ways that a self-employed freelancer can use the principles behind Agile to help their customers the most.
